Villas-Boas: It was the worst performance of the season
Chelsea was defeated in match against Everton 2-0, and many Chelsea fans questioned themselves what will happen this season with their be loving club. Is Andre Villas-Boas job safe? Do they need another manager?…
It was a performance that prompted Villas-Boas to say: “That was one of our worst displays of the season, if not our worst.”
When asked if fourth place was the minimum achievement needed for his job security, Villas-Boas added: “Of course, of course, of course.”
Asked if he was worried about his position, he said: “No, well, this is a weekend and it doesn’t shift from weekend to weekend. Now we are sixth, level on points with the fourth team. We know exactly what our targets are for the season.
“There are still plenty of games to play. There is an objective and we have to set out to reach the objective. Champions League qualification is the least you can ask for.
“We need Champions League qualification and that’s what we expect. The objective is first place but first place is not a real objective any more and neither is second.”
After he replaced Essien for Malouda many fans didn’t welcome that decision: “The substitution was so that we could get Juan Mata in between the lines.
“We wanted a left-footed player on the left wing with Malouda, which we count on. That was the basic of the substitution.
“If they do not agree, they are not professionals in football. But they are the persons who we respect most in the game and their opinion is highly valuable.”
